Google Online Newspapers
If you are looking for newspapers in Canada and elsewhere you might want to check http://news.google.com/newspapers. They have a very large collection of original images of newspapers that can be viewed online. Although some of their newspaper series are not complete it certainly provides an excellent start to newspaper research. One drawback is that the newspapers cannot be searched.
