Now you can use the AGBI in our Scholar+database to find your
ancestors in sources you may never hear about otherwise.
Described as "the best starting point to find any early New
England settlers", the American Genealogical Biographical Index
(AGBI) contains:
· more than 4
million names from over 800 books from our original collection and
· more than 2
million records from the Boston Transcript weekly genealogy column
Many of the books referenced in the AGBI are out of print and/or
do not contain an index. We have digitized nearly all of these books
and made them available on the Scholar.
Click here to read a genealogy blog
entry about how the AGBI can help you locate obscure resources
containing information about your ancestors.
It's easy to browse through the volumes, organized
alphabetically by surname. From the Scholar+ search
page, click on AGBI in the Browse By Category list. When you
find a listing in the index, view it as a digital book on the Scholar
or request a copy if it is a Boston Transcript reference.
