Temple Garden Ballroom Reunion 2014 Moose Jaw

Dance Hall Reunion Planned For 2014

Old friends find each other on Facebook every day, but not every day do old friends re-connect and share memories, photos and start collaborating on a book – but it is happening. While Heather Hodgson and Gord McCaw no longer reside in Moose Jaw, their memories of the old Temple Gardens Dance Hall live on and will be resurrected in a new book and reunion next year.
From rollerskating and wrestling to fashion shows, live music and dancing, Hodgson and McCaw are busy piecing together the history of the building that once stood at the corner of Cordova Street and Langdon Crescent. Once they've got it all, the plan is to publish a book of memories.
"You wouldn't believe the characters I'm meeting and the stories I've got," Heather says. I've got stories and vignettes from Moose Javians...Gord from across the country and this one woman, she must be in her 90s, she said she was known as the holy terror at Temple Gardens."
But it doesn't end with the book. Hodgson and McCaw are now organizing a Temple Gardens Dance Hall reunion in Moose Jaw over the Labour Day long weekend in 2014. She says venues are tentatively booked, a program is being planned and bands will be coming back to play.
"We need a year and a half to plan as this will be a huge event," she said.
Hodgson returns to Moose Jaw to gather memories from seniors on the main floor at Victoria Towers (Friday 1:00pm-4:30pm) and if you, or someone you know, has something to add, you're encouraged to share.
